Welcome and thank you for visiting our website, we hope this site allows you to find all you want to know about us here in Hospice.
I am the Chief Executive of Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation and a director of the Irish Hospice Foundation. I first experienced Hospice Care in Roscommon in 1994 when my friend was diagnosed with cancer and subsequently died. I became acutely aware of the importance of the service to my friend, her husband and two small children. When I discovered that this vital service was being provided by a voluntary organisation that relied on fundraising and voluntary donations I became determined to do everything I could to help.
I joined the Foundation in 1994 as a volunteer fundraiser with the Roscommon Town Hospice Support Group. In my time with the Group I served as PRO, Secretary, Treasurer and Chairperson. In 1998 the Foundation was recruiting an Administrator/Fundraiser to be based at the Hospice Central Office in Knock. I applied for the position and I was delighted to be appointed to the post in November of that year. I haven’t left and now I find myself writing this introduction!
I have been involved in the development of the Hospice Headquarters in Knock and spearheaded the expansion of the Specialist Palliative Homecare Service in both Mayo & Roscommon from a 5-day to 7-day service. Seeing the Home Sitter Service as well as a number of end-of-life care rooms in Hospitals in the two counties has given me great pleasure to be involved with and working for Hospice.
I am dedicated to the development of a comprehensive Palliative Care Service in the two counties and I am delighted that the planned Hospice Units will soon be a reality.
Thank you all for your hard work and kind support for Hospice over the years. Together we can make our new Hospice units a reality and continue to deliver Palliative Care Services in our communities.
