Have you ever wondered how many times
Peter Forde proudly wore the green and red of Mayo as part of the senior panel
or how many times James Nallen has scored whilst wearing the county colours?
Have you ever been in company discussing the winning Mayo team of 1951 and were
unable to remember all the names of the players on the panel who are now heros
in Mayo after brining their county to All-Ireland glory? Or wondered who were
the top scorers on the team in 1975? Well wonder no further! Thanks to the hard
work and determination of Mick Byrne (very well known publican in Castlebar)
and his good friend – Donal O’Donoghue a publication has been produced which
details all of the county’s league and championship results for the last sixty
years. This book (which is the first of its kind in Mayo) will be able to
settle the smallest dispute and bit of banter at the flick of a page and it
should be in the home of every single Mayo GAA fan in the county!
In brief, the book gives match details,
venue, date, competition, teams and scorers of each year from 1950 through to
2009. This wonderful publication provides nuggets of information on the highs
and lows of Mayo GAA and is appropriately entitled “Mayo – Sixty years of
Spills and Thrills”
Both Mick and Donal have very kindly
decided to donate all funds raised from the sale of the book directly to Mayo
