Windmill Wheelers to cycle 623km in France for Mayo Roscommon Hospice
On August 25th the Windmill Wheelers Cycling Club in Elphin will begin a week cycle in France in aid of Mayo Roscommon Hospice/Local Palliative Care Services.
The Windmill Wheelers was established in 2011 and due to its continuing growth and success was affiliated with Cycling Ireland in 2015. Last year club chairman John Murray convinced 18 cyclists, aged between 13-69, including himself, to take a five day challenge and cycle from Elphin to Paris. The completed the task and raised €14,500 for SOS suicide prevention charity in Elphin.
This year’s 623Km cycle is from Tours to Lourdes which will include a 75 Km Cycle into the Pyrennes to the Spanish border (this has an elevation of 1,300m).
Windmill Wheelers has set themselves a considerable fundraising target of €30,000 for this year’s adventure. The 22 participants have again funded their own trip ensuring all funds raised go directly to the Hospice/Palliative Care Service Foundation.
The Roscommon Mayo Hospice Foundation has touched so many families with their specialist care since their foundation in 1992. Last year they cared for 845 patients in both counties. Their dedicated 24 hour 7 day specialist service comes at a significant cost and to maintain their immense service and standard a total of €2.3 Million needs to be raised through fundraising, as the Foundation do not receive any Government funding. This is why your support is key.
