Description

Mayo Roscommon Hospice are delighted to be benefiting from a fantastic new publication called ‘I always knew the neighbours had money’ a collection of poetry which has been entirely scribed by Dara Duke. Dara explains where his motivation for the poetry came from and how it all came about, “I wrote a couple of poems a few years back which were “The Bar” and “The Talking Marathon”, however in the hustle and bustle of life, I never progressed it any further due to not being able to make time for it. In Nov 2014 I was made redundant from Bank Of America in Carrick on Shannon where I worked for the previous 12.5 years. Suddenly I had a lot of time on my hands so I decided to revisit my writing and over the next 10 weeks I completed the remainder of the work. I decided that if I could achieve my objective of a minimum of 10 poems that I would publish with all funds raised going to Mayo Roscommon Hospice, which is an amazing charity and has helped a number of families in my area alone. The cover pictures on the book were taken by me on my iPhone from the front door of my house and inspired me to write “The Hill”, I’m fortunate to live in a very scenic place in Co Roscommon and I think the poem itself sums up the heart warming views I have from my place of abode”. The book retails at €5 and really is a fantastic collection of poetry from the heart.
