The Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation newsletter contains updates on fundraising, events, and volunteer and community efforts.

  • The CEO’s message thanked supporters and highlighted the work of the Hospice’s Community Homecare teams, which received 739 new referrals in 2023, and provided Family Support to 67 families. The Roscommon Hospice opened in February 2023 and cared for 124 patients in its first year.
  • Fundraising efforts included the Ladies Who Lunch event at The Lodge at Ashford Castle, Castlerea Prison’s donation of shamrocks for St. Patrick’s Day, a group climb of Mount KilimanjaroBernard Tansey’s raffle of a Massey Ferguson tractor, and the Roscommon Drama Group’s donation from their production of Calendar Girls. Upcoming fundraisers were also listed.
  • Volunteer Focus sections highlighted Ann Hogan and Ann Sherlock, who shared their stories and dedication to volunteering at the Hospice shop in Roscommon Town.
  • “Did You Know?” sections provided statistics on the Palliative Homecare teams’ activity and the Family Support provided in 2023. It also highlighted the Roscommon Hospice’s opening in 2023 and the number of patients it cared for in its first year.
  • Other news included Rita Casey, the Mayo Person of the Year, being recognised for her bravery and fundraising efforts; the Roscommon Hospice Unit celebrating its first anniversary; and Ashford Castle’s selection of Mayo Roscommon Hospice as its 2024 Charity of the Year.
