Curley’s ‘bottle’ in Ballyhaunis reaches new record

In1974 a bottle was first placed on the counter of Curley’s Bar in Ballyhaunis with the idea that customers would add small ‘change’ on a regular basis to go to a good cause.

A lovely history of the bottle was shared by Michael Commins in The Mayo News, detailing that when the bottle was first filled back in the mid-70s, a presentation was made to Ballyhaunis St Vincent de Paul that amounted to £92, which was a substantial sum at the time.

The proceeds of the ‘bottle’ on this occasion reached a record total of €4,250 and was shared equally between the Mayo Roscommon Hospice and the Sunflower Children’s Hospice, with each receiving cheques for €2,125. Ann Curley made the presentation to Martina Jennings, CEO of Mayo Roscommon, at the bar in Ballyhaunis.

We’re so grateful to Ann Curley (pictured with Martina Jennings), Pauline and all who continue to support this noble and long running venture in Curley’s Bar, stretching back over five decades.
