Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation’s annual Memorial Walk and Tree of Light ceremony took place on Sunday, December 7th in Knock, bringing together families, friends, and supporters from across the region for a meaningful and reflective afternoon.
Always an event filled with love and warmth, the Memorial Walk and Tree Lighting ceremony once again provided an opportunity for people to come together to remember their loved ones in a very special way. The walk began at 4pm and was followed by the Shine A Light ceremony at 5pm.
The Tree Lighting ceremony took place at the Plaza, across from the Parish Church on Main Street. The tree was adorned with thousands of lights, each one illuminating thoughts, memories, and tributes to loved ones, creating a powerful and moving display for all in attendance.
People of all ages participated in the Memorial Walk, with families, friends, and community members walking together in remembrance and support. Participants also had the opportunity to fundraise for Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, either through sponsorship cards or by setting up fundraising pages on iDonate.
Following the walk, the Tree Lighting ceremony served as a beautiful celebration of life and remembrance. Attendees were invited to sponsor a light on the tree for €5, with each light representing a personal tribute — some in memory of those who have passed, and others as messages of hope, love, and gratitude.
The ceremony featured wonderful live music and carol singing, along with refreshments, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The afternoon also included a brief ceremony with clergy and speakers, as well as a moment of reflection as the Tree of Light was illuminated. The Christmas Tree of Light remained on display throughout the holiday season, allowing people to visit, reflect, and contribute.
