Ireland West Airport is delighted to announce, in partnership with Portwest, that our hugely popular annual 5k Runway Family Fun Run will take place on the runway at Ireland West Airport on Saturday, September 13th at 6:00 pm.
Runners and walkers will take off down the runway at 6:00 p.m. and complete a 5km course with a difference. All are welcome to attend what promises to be a fantastic evening for the whole family, raising much-needed funds for our charity partners in 2025.
The airport charity partners for 2025 are the Connacht SBHI Branch (Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland), Dillon Quirke Foundation, Mayo Roscommon Hospice, Order of Malta (Knock Branch), The National Breast Cancer Research Institute and Western Alzheimers
Entry to the event costs €20 per adult and €5 for under-16s. A special family rate of €40 will be available for families of two adults and two kids. Participants will receive a race t-shirt, complimentary car parking, and refreshments at the airport will be provided on the day. The number of participants is restricted, and those interested are advised to register early to avoid disappointment. A ‘Virtual option’ will also be available again this year for those who wish to support the charities but cannot make it on the day and would like to do a virtual run or walk, etc.
Commenting at the launch of the Portwest 5k Runway Fun Run, Joe Gilmore, Managing Director, Ireland West Airport, said, “2025 will be the 8th year of our hugely popular airport runway run, which is the only run of its type in the country. It continues to grow in popularity and is a fantastic occasion at the airport, which raises over €20,000 every year for our charity partners. The airport is delighted to again partner with six new charities this year and in doing so recognising the amazing work these charities do in their local communities and beyond. We look forward to welcoming a big crowd to the airport on the 13th of September and in turn to raising significant monies for our fantastic six charities’.
