Sunflower days

The June 2024 newsletter from the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation contains updates on fundraising, events, and volunteer contributions.

  • The Sunflower Days fundraiser will be held on June 7th and 8th, with volunteers collecting donations across both counties. All funds raised will go directly to local hospice services. National Hospice Sunflower Days will take place on the same weekend and aims to raise money for local hospice services.
  • The Ladies Lunch fundraiser at the Lodge at Ashford Castle was a success and raised money for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation.
  • Upcoming fundraisers include:
    • A golf event in memory of Michael Moran
    • The Kathleen Conneely Memorial Walk on Clare Island
    • The Achill Half Marathon & 10K Run
    • A Tea, Coffee, Cake & Raffle Garden Event in Achill
    • An ’80s Party Night at Nancy’s Nightclub Roscommon
  • The newsletter also includes a message from the CEO, Martina Jennings, who was named Social Entrepreneur of the Year at the IMAGE PwC Businesswoman of the Year Awards.
  • The longest-running charity shop in Swinford is celebrating 24 years and continues to be a vital part of the organisation.
  • Volunteer Focus highlights Swinford volunteers Nora and Gay, who share their reasons for getting involved with the Hospice and how it has benefited them.
  • Other stories include a tribute to the palliative care teams, a Roscommon nurse’s 23,000km cycle to raise funds, and how the Ballinrobe community welcomed four new residents who became volunteers at the local Hospice shop.
